Inspiration : More white space

Is this space look good because of the photographer

Sustain by A.P.C

To know that A.P.C has a fragrance surprised me.
I have never thought of A.P.C with any smell.
But they do have a limited edition "sustain" fragrance.
It was written in "the moment blog" that.........

"If you wear wrinkled scarves, old Converses and a secretly expensive trench coat
and haven’t washed your A.P.C. jeans since Jarvis Cocker left Pulp, this one’s for you."

This really makes me smile.

Mathias Dahlgren restaurant, Grand Hotel Stockholm by Ilse Crawford

I'm working on a hotel project and find her design is quite inspiring.
I like her combinations eventhough I'm not a kind of too much combinations person
(if you know me).
I mean she's so brave and that is so inspiring.

Ilse Crawford "Seating for eating"

Ilse Crawford was my favorite editor when she was at Elle Decoration UK.
I collected all of the editions at her time.
I didn't know at that time what the editor could make a different,
until....she left ED UK and nothing is the same.
I rarely buy ED UK ever since.
I like her "Seating for eating" collection that she designed.
These furnitures also comes from sustainable sources.

Inspiration: Sustainable furniture from Italy

Katrin Arens designed furniture by using old wood.
I love how people give a new life to old wood, old building.
Her design is very simple and I love that she maintained the original finishing.
It's just perfect.

Inspiration: Clean bathroom in old building

I want to be in this space. This bathroom looks so good.
I love clean design in the old building.
The thing is......how can I find old building in Thailand?
They are demolished one by one these days.
"Old" for Thai people is just for the temples....I guess.

It's Goop

I'm not a fan of Gwyneth Paltrow
(but of her husband......Chris Martin of Coldplay....maybe)
anyway I found myself liking two of her styling
because I could see myself being in these pieces.
Sometimes you like something just for that reason.
I can't help using my experieces for making a choice in everything
.....my clothing, my interior works...etc.
I can't become that objective.....can we?

My new handmade blouse and some thoughts

After reading Jenny (wiksten-made) making herself a blouse
to be the same design as “Sunshine and shadow”.
I decided to try my own version too.
Although there’s a lot of comments whether or not to do this.
I admitted that I couldn’t stop myself from wanting to make this blouse since it looks so easy.
And I convinced myself that it's ok because it’s just a sleeveless blouse like another blouses
but with just a pocket and a round hem like a man shirt.
But I think (again) that it’s not like another blouses
because of these details and this is what we called the “design”.

And then I came out with this conclusion.....
......I made a striped blouse that I used horizontal stripes for the pocket
to be contrast to the vertical stripes of the main part.
At the two corners of the hem I added the tiny pieces of horizontal striped details again.
I wanted to play with patterns not about the silhouette.
I tried to think that I was inspired by Sunshine and shadow blouse
but twisted it into my own version. Hope this help.

Sometimes life is too complicated...don't you think?

Hotel review: “Chiang Mai, The Chedi”

The Chedi is located on the bank of Ping River so it has a spectacular calm and peaceful view.
It was designed by Australian architect Kerry Hill
who also designed a famous hotel in Bangkok; Sukhothai Hotel around 1995
that every Thai designers had to come for having a look.
The building’s mainly covered with wood panelling to make it humble with the surrounding.
The hotel is quite popular because the rooms were full at the time we were there
so to be booking in advance is recommended.
We didn’t have a chance to stay there but did have a brunch at the restaurant.
What people are talking about is their scones. Magga were running around all over the place.
I was quite relief for the child welcome policy of this hotel…..you know what I mean.

Hotel review: “Chiang Mai, Tamarind Village”

Tamarind Village was designed by my favorite Thai renowned architect: Ong-ard Satrabhandu.
I’ve been looking forward to stay here for such a long time since its open in 2002.
This place is quite famous for referring to his early hotel design in Chiang Mai;
while the latest one is "rachamankha" which I think he made it much better
in every thoughts of his design.
And many people in my field agree that he corrected his mistakes
that he made for Tamarind Village and improved these into Rachamankha.
But the thing is Rachamankha not welcome children under 12 and Magga is only 3
maybe I have to wait for another 9 years.
So I chose to stay at “Tamarind Village” which is also a good place to stay
and after I went to have a look at Rachamakha,
I think Tamarind is more welcome atmosphere and cozier to stay for guest with children
so I understand why Rachamankha not allowed children to stay in their place.
But to be honest I don’t want to compare them because they were designed for different reasons
and I love and have a respect for both of designs.
Have a look for Tamarind Village if you looking for a unique hotel in Chiang Mai.

Hotel review: “Chiang Mai, Rachamankha”

Rachamankha was also designed by Ong-ard Satrabhandu; one of the Thai famous architects.
Apart from this place, his well-known designs are Tamarind Village in Chiang Mai
and Panapan School at Ladpraw area.
But Panapan School has been demolished and became an international store “Carrefour”at these days.
Don’t be surprise if these kinds of things happen in Thailand all the time.
Before it would be demolished, there’re a lot of issues of restoring the old buildings in Thailand.
But how old is it? This is the big question and a long conflicts in Thailand so let it be another story in here.
Rachamankha is the place that not welcomes children under 12.
I was upset at the first place but after having dinner there once
with Kanchit and Magga when he was 2.5 years.
I realized why they have this rule.
First, their design is so calm and decorated with precious breakable stuff
that I would sell my house to buy them back if something happen because of Magga.
Second, their atmosphere is so quiet to hear only your breath.
When Magga was screaming for being so happy to see things around,
Kanchit and I almost bit our tongues
and you know how hard it is to make little one stop from being too excited.
So I recommend Tamarind Village for family with children
and want to stay in a very unique design like Ong-ard Satrabhandu’s work.

He brings me back some photos

I always get a special present from Kanchit when he has to be away for oversea.
What I like most is the pictures he took of the architectures and interiors
that he thought I might like them and would inspire me.
I collect lots of photos around the world that he took for me.
This one is the building in Cambodia. It's made from concrete and bamboo.
What a combination!

She's a tiger

Last wednesday was the birthday of my niece, Num.
She's getting 11 years old. She's a tiger in Asian sign.
Quite right...for the fact that she's courageous and dynamic.
Happy Birthday darling, you're a big girl now.
This is the card that I made for her by my hand.

My favorite material

Nothing makes you feel like timber that’s why I love it.
It's one of a few things that ages beutifully, other than that is stone, leather, concrete as I can think of.
But to be concerned with the eco-friendly issue, I’m trying not to use timber in my work
except that it has to be from the recycled sources.
This table is made from old teak. It once was a teak floor in an old house for more than 60 years.
Before it has been polished, it's difficult to belived that it would turn out to be this beautiful material.
It's been given to a new life and turn to be a 3.50 x 1.00 meters dining table and 12 dining chairs.
Old timber is reliable for not being stretchy and giving a lighter color.
The thing is some people don’t want to use old timber if they're kind of superstitious.
In my opinion if you do something with your good heart what kind of evil would haunt you.
I recommend my favorite carpenter who works for me.
Her shop is called Raan Mai located around New Rama9 Road.
Contact Khun Areeya (023692198).
She sells old timber and old teak furniture for a reasonable price.
This table cost around 40,000 Baht (1,000 USD)

Shopping fantasy: White tops

I have never been bored of white.....never.
Though white is the difficult color to take care of.
And it's the color that doesn't age very well.
Old white never looks good in my opinion.
But needless to say I have never gotten tired of falling in love with the white new top.
I want these white blouses from Pringle and United Bamboo.

Available here at Bird.
